 TEXTING AND DRIVING IN OHIO

In Ohio its actually illegal to write, send, or read a text while driving. This is true for both minors and adults. Minors are prohibited from talking on a cell phone while driving. More information is available on the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles here http://bmv.ohio.gov/texting_ban.stm.

Despite this reality, people still continue to text and drive. We’ve all encountered these drivers. For all intents and purposes the driver appears drunk, he drifts into different lanes, he will drive slow then speed. Then you’ll drive past them (because who wants to be driving around a drunk driver ), and wait, what is the driver doing, looking down at his or her phone. The problem is people die and suffer grievous injures when another driver fails to follow safety rules, and drives distracted.

TEENS DYING IN DISTRACTED DRIVING ACCIDENTS

According to an article by TRW Automotive nearly 3000 teens die each year in crashes caused by texting while driving. Compare this with 2700 teens who die each year in drunk driving accidents. The TRW article is available here: http://safety.trw.com/texting-while-driving-now-leading-cause-of-us-teen-deaths/0710/

It doesn’t matter if the teen is texting or reading some banal text related to teen life, or an innocent text from her parents. If you have the time you might watch this eyeopening video about a young woman who let her eyes of the road to read a text from . . . her mother. If you watch the video you’ll notice the teen has a terrible facial disfigurement, before she was beautiful. http://wtvr.com/2014/11/02/texting-while-driving-wreck-leaves-girl-blind-in-one-eye/

ADULTS AND TEXTING

However, lets not forget about adults. According to a recent study in USA Today 49% percent of adults admit to texting compared to 43% of teenagers. Regardless of whether you are an adult or teenager, spread the message, “Don’t Text and Drive.” We would rather that you didn’t need a Columbus Personal Injury Attorney because you were injured in a catastrophic car accident as a result of a distracted driver.
